Leao:
Derby Against Inter is AC Milan’s Last Chance
Rafael Leao warned his teammates to use the opportunity against Inter Milan to change their season’s trajectory.
AC Milan’s hopes for European qualification in Serie A were practically dashed after a 1-0 home defeat against Atalanta. The only goal of the match was scored by Ederson with a header, leaving Milan in ninth place in the standings.
Leao spoke to DAZN about the team’s situation: “It’s hard to explain. What I can say is that since Sergio Conceição arrived, we’ve often managed to turn games around when we were behind. The coach has instilled this fighting spirit in us. Sometimes we play well and don’t win, sometimes we play poorly and win. I have no explanation for it.
We played very well against Udinese, but this match was strange. We could have scored first, especially when we came into the second half with more motivation. But Atalanta scored on the counterattack, and it was a bitter moment for us, ultimately leading to defeat.”
The Portuguese star spoke about the crucial derby against Inter in the Coppa Italia semi-final: “We must give everything to win, reach the final, and make our fans happy. Not just them, but we also need this joy because this season has been really tough for us. This is a derby. There’s not much to say. We must go into the game with the right mentality and belief that we can win this trophy. This match is very important—it could change our season. This is our last chance to turn things around.”
