Rio Ferdinand’s advice to Rasmus Hojlund
‘Man United striker is ineffective—go grab the winger by the collar!’
Rio Ferdinand believes Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles in scoring stem from behavioral and personality issues rather than technical deficiencies.
Rasmus Hojlund has been filling in for Antony at Manchester United recently and has faced ridicule from fans after every match. Supporters argue that he might not score a single goal in an entire season and question why he is even playing as a striker.
Hojlund joined United from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 but has failed to establish himself as a reliable striker. In his first season at Old Trafford, he managed a somewhat respectable tally of 10 goals. However, this season, he has scored only 3 goals in 28 appearances.
Rio Ferdinand, a Manchester United legend, recently made comments about Hojlund that have drawn attention. He described the Danish striker as ineffective and timid, stating that his issues are more about personality than technique.
Ferdinand said in his podcast: “This boy is shy. Maybe even ineffective. Rasmus, go grab the winger by the collar and shout at him. Say, ‘Hey, lad, you need to pass to me like this. I’m the striker, and I need these passes. You should be here or there, moving into these spaces so I can score. Fix this problem. In football, no one rewards you for being a nice guy. Have confidence and prove yourself.'”
Will Rasmus Hojlund change his attitude and performance after hearing these words from a United legend? The club needs him now more than ever. Zirkzee’s injury has left Hojlund as the only available striker for Amorin. The Red Devils, preparing for their Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao, need the Danish forward more than ever.
