Robertson had every right to be angry at Van Dijk!

According to reports, Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool star, says Andrew Robertson was right to be so angry with captain Virgil van Dijk and shout at him. Carragher was referring to West Ham’s goal against Liverpool in today’s match, which was scored as an own goal by Robertson.

With just four minutes left in regular time and Liverpool leading 1-0, a cross from Wan-Bissaka reached Liverpool’s penalty area. Van Dijk unnecessarily tried to intervene but ended up kicking the ball into Robertson, who was standing slightly behind him, resulting in the own goal.

Broadcast images showed Robertson visibly furious, shouting at captain Van Dijk. However, the tension between Robertson and Van Dijk dissipated minutes later. Van Dijk scored Liverpool’s winning goal, and Robertson was the first to congratulate him.

    Robertson and Van Dijk argument

Jamie Carragher says Robertson was completely justified in being angry with Van Dijk: “Van Dijk made a terrible mistake. Look how angry Robertson is. He has every right to be. This own goal should have been credited to Van Dijk, but it went to Robertson, and everyone is blaming him. So he has every right to be angry. Van Dijk practically tackled Robertson. There should be such close communication between two defenders that they know each other’s positions blindfolded. I would have shouted at Van Dijk too if I were in Robertson’s place. I think the image clearly shows Robertson shouting seconds before the incident, telling Van Dijk to leave it, he’s got it. But Van Dijk just doesn’t listen.”
