Emmanuel Petit:
Amorim Tempts Players to Join Manchester United!
Rúben Amorim, Manchester United’s head coach, has been accused of tempting Matheus Cunha to join the Red Devils.
Manchester United recently lost 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Pablo Sarabia scoring the decisive goal in the second half, leaving Amorim’s side empty-handed. However, after the final whistle, a scene in the Old Trafford tunnel sparked controversy.
Amorim was seen talking to Wolves’ star Matheus Cunha with his hand on the player’s shoulder. This gesture led to speculation that it was more than a friendly chat and possibly an attempt by Amorim to lure Cunha ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old Brazilian forward has attracted attention from top clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea this season with his impressive performances (14 goals from 88 shots). However, recent reports suggest Manchester United is in a stronger position to sign him, with positive negotiations underway. The transfer could be finalized by triggering his £84 million release clause.
Emmanuel Petit, former Chelsea and Arsenal star, believes Amorim’s actions were deliberate, suggesting the coach was making an offer to sign the Brazilian forward.
He told Sambafoot: “Amorim was talking to Matheus Cunha and putting some pressure on him. I think we all understand what he was doing because Amorim looks for players with character. Cunha has shown he has that quality—he’s been Wolves’ best player and probably saved them from relegation. He could be an incredible signing for Manchester United, and it seems he’s already in contact with Amorim.”
If Cunha joins Manchester United, the team’s attack could be transformed. Petit added: “He could play further forward than Bruno Fernandes and bring a lot of energy to the attack.” Petit also emphasized that United must strengthen their squad by selling some players and signing new stars to finish the season successfully. Meanwhile, Amorim has previously expressed interest in Cunha, and this tunnel conversation appears to be part of his summer recruitment plan.
