Sergio Ramos on the Verge of Major Failure in Mexico
Sergio Ramos is on the verge of experiencing a major failure in Mexico’s Liga MX.
According to reports, Ramos’ first season in Mexico is on the brink of failure. His arrival at Monterrey sparked great excitement among the team’s fans, but they have failed to meet expectations, and the results speak for themselves.
Monterrey, without Ramos due to injury, suffered a home defeat against Pachuca on Sunday—a loss that could cost them dearly. If the Mexican team fails to win their next match against Pumas, they will effectively be eliminated from the Clausura tournament. This early elimination possibility has caused significant concern among Monterrey fans.
Despite taking the lead in the 51st minute with a goal from Germán Berterame, Pachuca turned the game around in the final minutes and secured the win. Pachuca will now face the champion of America in the quarterfinals, a team they had previously defeated in the regular season on April 5.
This defeat was a major disappointment for Monterrey, who, despite having a more reputable squad than their opponents, have struggled to maintain consistency in recent weeks. Martín Demichelis, Monterrey’s coach, expressed frustration with the result, stating: “We are not happy, quite the opposite. We faced an opponent that made us feel uncomfortable. In the second half, without changes, we managed to correct our mistakes and played better. We felt comfortable and took the lead. But the four minutes that followed were disastrous—where every move could put you at risk of winning or losing. So, our feelings are a mix of anger and sadness because we thought we were heading to the playoffs.”
Monterrey is now 90 minutes away from elimination, which could happen in their crucial match against Pumas next week. If they win, they will face Toluca, the top team from the regular season, in the quarterfinals. Demichelis hopes that the injured Sergio Ramos will be available for the match to help his team secure victory.
