Serie A Controversy: Heavy Sanctions Against Roma and Lazio Fans
Following clashes before the Derby della Capitale, fans of Lazio and Roma have been banned from attending three upcoming away matches in Serie A.
According to reports, the match ended in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico, but incidents occurred before kickoff near the Ponte Milvio bridge, where fans from both teams attempted to clash. Police intervened to prevent confrontation.
When extremist fans failed to attack each other, they turned their anger towards the police, throwing bottles and other objects.
Local authorities typically avoid scheduling high-risk matches like the Rome derby at night to prevent potential violence. In response to these events, Lazio and Roma fans will not be allowed to purchase tickets for the next three away matches in Serie A.
The Italian Interior Minister has also ordered that high-risk matches be held during daytime hours starting next season, rather than at night. It is believed that earlier kickoff times will make it easier for police to monitor and control the situation.
