A Gladiatorial Battle for European Qualification
Serie A Heats Up: 7 Teams Battle for 2 Champions League Spots
With this week’s Serie A results, the battle for Champions League qualification has become more complicated.
Seven Italian teams are fighting for two Champions League spots in the remaining six weeks of Serie A.
Unlike last season when Italian football secured an extra spot and five Serie A teams qualified directly for the Champions League, this year Italy failed to achieve this advantage. Thus, Serie A will have only four direct qualification spots.
As of now, after Inter Milan and Napoli (whose qualification is certain), Atalanta and Juventus currently occupy third and fourth places. However, with the close points gap, their qualification is not guaranteed, and the other five teams could overtake them in the remaining weeks.
The team farthest from qualification is undoubtedly AC Milan. Their chances seem unlikely, but mathematically, they still have a shot. The other six teams—Lazio, Roma, Fiorentina, Juventus, Atalanta, and Bologna—will engage in a fierce battle in the coming weeks, and anything can happen.
