Serie A Match Postponed Due to Death of Team Physiotherapist
The Italian Football Federation officially announced the postponement of the Atalanta vs. Lecce match in the 34th round of Serie A due to the sudden death of Lecce’s physiotherapist.
According to reports, while many Serie A matches were postponed last week due to the sudden death of Pope Francis, the 34th round of the competition was also affected as the match between Atalanta and Lecce was postponed following the death of Lecce’s physiotherapist.
Earlier today, Graziano Fiorita, the 38-year-old physiotherapist of Lecce, passed away during the team’s training camp ahead of their match against Atalanta, shocking Italian football.
Notably, his father, Fernando Fiorita, had also served as Lecce’s physiotherapist for 10 consecutive seasons, making the family deeply connected to the club’s staff and players.
He was found lifeless in his hotel room near Brescia this morning, and shortly after, Lecce officially announced his passing and requested the postponement of the match against Atalanta from the Italian Football Federation.
A new date for the match has yet to be confirmed. Atalanta currently sits in third place with 64 points after the 33rd round, while Lecce is in 17th place with 26 points.
