End of Garcia Pimienta’s Era
Sevilla Manager Sacked
Sevilla has dismissed Garcia Pimienta after the gap with the relegation zone widened to seven points.
According to reports, Sevilla’s board met this morning and decided to sack Xavi Garcia Pimienta as the head coach. Joaquin Caparros will take over from Monday.
Caparros is tasked with correcting Sevilla’s path, having lost their last four consecutive La Liga matches. Las Palmas’ victory over Getafe has widened the gap with the relegation zone to seven points, sounding the alarm at Nervion.
Garcia Pimienta joined Sevilla last summer on a one-year contract with an optional extension. In September, when the team’s results were average, his contract was surprisingly extended for another season. Now, Sevilla must pay him the remaining wages for this season and the additional year.
Caparros will manage Sevilla for the fourth time. In 2001, he led the team to promotion and stayed until 2005. In 2018 and 2019, he also served as interim coach to secure European qualification. This time, his mission is to keep the team in La Liga, preferably with relative ease.
