The Jewel That Became a Burden for Barcelona!

    Least Playtime, Highest Salary

The Jewel That Became a Burden for Barcelona!

Ansu Fati, the young star and product of Barcelona’s academy, once hailed as the jewel of Spanish football, has now become a major problem for the club.

The Jewel That Became a Burden for Barcelona!

Under the management of Hansi Flick, who has managed to revive most of the team’s players, Fati has no place in Barcelona’s lineup this season. With the least playing time and one of the highest salaries, he has become an economic and sporting dilemma for the Catalans. Fati’s contract runs until 2027, with an annual gross salary of around €14 million—a figure that does not align with his poor performance.

This season, Fati has played less than 200 minutes for Barcelona, with only Andreas Christensen, injured since August, having fewer minutes. Even players like Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, Pau Victor, and Dani Olmo are preferred by Flick. Fati rejected a transfer offer in the winter window, a decision that displeased Flick and Barcelona’s management, as it hindered new signings. Despite fan support and his popularity in the locker room, Fati has failed to secure a stable role in the team. His brief appearance against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, met with loud cheers, showed fans’ affection, but it wasn’t enough to change his status.

    Ansu Fati in action

Flick recently stated that Fati has improved in training, but his emphasis on team priorities indicates Fati remains on the fringes. His unsuccessful loan spell at Brighton in the Premier League also failed to revive his career.

Barcelona, struggling financially, is seeking a solution for Fati’s situation. With the emergence of Lamine Yamal as the new star, Barcelona would prefer to pass Lionel Messi’s legendary No. 10 to him rather than Fati. Financial issues, poor performance, and Fati’s expensive contract have left his future at Barcelona uncertain. Options like another loan, a sale, or even contract termination are being considered, but what’s clear is that Fati’s time at Barcelona is coming to an end.
