The Most Irresponsible Captain in the World: Sent Off in the 67th Second!
Kenan Karaman, Schalke’s captain, was shown a straight red card just 67 seconds into the match against Hamburg for a reckless foul.
According to reports, Schalke and Hamburg, two of Germany’s oldest football clubs, faced each other in the 30th matchday of Bundesliga 2 at Schalke’s home stadium.
In a crucial match for league leaders Hamburg, Kenan Karaman, Schalke’s experienced captain, was sent off just 67 seconds into the game after a dangerous studs-up challenge on a Hamburg defender.
Initially, the referee only issued a warning, but after reviewing the incident via VAR, he immediately reversed his decision and showed Karaman a straight red card, leaving Schalke with 10 men in less than two minutes.
Despite Karaman’s dismissal, Schalke put up a strong performance and managed to hold league leaders Hamburg to a 2-2 draw.
In the current Bundesliga 2 standings, Hamburg leads with 53 points and is on the verge of promotion back to the Bundesliga after three seasons. Schalke, with 38 points, sits in 11th place, with their remaining matches holding little significance.
Cologne (51 points) and Elversberg (48 points) are also in contention for promotion.
