The Club World Cup is the same as the World Cup
Thiago Silva: Winning the Club World Cup with Fluminense and Brazil in the World Cup, What a Dream!
Thiago Silva, the veteran Brazilian star, says he will soon participate in the Club World Cup with Fluminense and has a big dream.
Thiago Silva will be one of the standout players in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. Silva, who previously won the tournament with Chelsea, will now represent Fluminense at the age of 41.
In an interview with FIFA, Silva expressed his hope that Fluminense can win the title, though he acknowledged the difficulty given the presence of top clubs. He also mentioned his ambition to play in the 2026 World Cup with Brazil and dreamt of reaching the finals at MetLife Stadium with both Fluminense and the national team.
*A chance to play in the Club World Cup with Fluminense?
Playing in another global tournament is exciting. I have fond memories of winning it with Chelsea, and we will try to win it again with Fluminense. This tournament elevates a club’s global profile, much like the World Cup. The expectations are high, and although we are just starting the season, we are hopeful.
*Facing Dortmund?
Playing against Dortmund is special. I’ve faced them several times, mostly winning, but they are always a strong opponent. Matches against top teams like Dortmund are always challenging but exciting.
*Fluminense’s goal in the Club World Cup?
Our goal is always to win. But with 31 other teams aiming for the same, we must be well-prepared. We want to enjoy this opportunity and compete against the best clubs.
*Expectations for the Club World Cup atmosphere?
I expect a great atmosphere. Having played in four World Cups, I see similarities. The Club World Cup feels like a mini-World Cup. I hope Brazilian fans in the USA create a vibrant environment.
*Could you play two finals at MetLife Stadium? First the Club World Cup final, then the World Cup final with Brazil?
What an exciting question. What a dream! Although it’s complicated, anything is possible in football. Fluminense can reach the final, and so can Brazil. I’ve played in the last four World Cups but never reached the final. Brazil isn’t in its best form now, but I believe in our talent.
*You’re a big fan of LeBron James, right?
I follow all sports, including the NBA. LeBron is with the Lakers now, right? Whenever I can watch him play, I do. In Brazil, we have players who perform at a high level even in their 40s. At this age, you must manage energy carefully to perform in matches.
