According to reports, Manchester United has surpassed several European giants and reached a preliminary agreement with Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.

Based on reports from the Daily Mail, the club has reached an initial agreement with Osimhen’s agent regarding salary terms. Osimhen, who has a £63 million release clause for non-Italian clubs, is one of the main targets for Rúben Amorim, Manchester United’s head coach, to strengthen the team’s attack.

Manchester United’s attacking performance, especially after the poor displays of Rasmus Højlund, the 22-year-old Danish striker, has faced heavy criticism. Højlund, who was criticized after the match against Wolverhampton on Sunday, has scored only 3 goals in 28 Premier League matches this season, failing to meet expectations given his £72 million price tag.

According to Tuttosport, a potential swap deal involving Højlund moving to Napoli could facilitate this transfer. Osimhen, considered one of Europe’s best strikers and linked with clubs like Arsenal, Juventus, and Barcelona, has scored 29 goals in 34 matches this season, with 21 of those coming in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Osimhen also played a key role in Napoli’s Serie A title win in the 2022-23 season after 33 years, scoring 31 goals in all competitions.

However, last summer, after Napoli’s coach Antonio Conte signed Romelu Lukaku and sidelined Osimhen, the Nigerian striker was forced to seek a new club. Despite rumors linking him to Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and several Saudi clubs, no permanent transfer materialized.

The Nigerian striker, who has scored 26 goals in 40 international appearances, is under contract with Napoli until the end of next season. Although Galatasaray is eager to keep Osimhen, it seems unlikely that they will be able to retain the striker, who is considered one of Europe’s best players at the peak of his career.
