Uncertainty in Manchester United’s Goalkeeping Position
Uncertain Future for Andre Onana at Manchester United: Saudi Interest Remains Strong
Andre Onana wants to continue at Manchester United, but the club’s decision remains unclear.
Manchester United signed Onana in the summer of 2023 after parting ways with David de Gea. The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who had won the club’s Player of the Season award four times, left as a free agent, prompting United to seek a new No. 1.
The English club paid a significant fee to Inter Milan for Onana, but costly errors have overshadowed his time in the Premier League. Serious questions remain about his reliability in goal.
Two years ago, there was interest from the Saudi Pro League in signing Onana, and according to GIVEMESPORT, clubs in the Middle East still want to acquire the goalkeeper. Teams in the region would have no problem paying his £200,000-a-week wages.
However, Fabrizio Romano insists that an imminent transfer is not on the cards. He says: “It’s important to clarify that Onana wants to stay at Manchester United and compete at the highest level possible. He is determined to change the situation, help the team, continue at Old Trafford, and pursue his dream.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s management, along with Ruben Amorim, will assess the goalkeeping situation to decide how to proceed in the summer transfer window. Therefore, the position remains open and will be an interesting topic to follow.”
