Pena, Flick’s New Dilemma
Unhappy Barcelona Goalkeeper Rebels!
Inaki Pena was dragged into the group of players to listen to Flick’s instructions during yesterday’s training after Marc-Andre ter Stegen insisted.
According to reports, this issue adds to the recent incidents involving Ansu Fati and Hector Fort in the match against Celta last Saturday.
Whether coincidental or not, Hansi Flick is facing increasing dissatisfaction in the Barcelona dressing room. Players with fewer minutes have shown behavior far from the ideal camaraderie experienced last season.
The latest incident involves Inaki Pena. According to Mundo Deportivo, the goalkeeper stood apart from the group listening to Flick’s pre-training talk. Ter Stegen, Barcelona’s captain, noticed this and forcibly brought him closer to where the coach was giving instructions. The scene was reportedly captured on camera.
These tensions between players and the coach come at the worst possible time for Barcelona. Flick himself warned the players in a press conference on Monday, urging them to “rebel on the pitch” rather than during moments when they should be celebrating the comeback against Celta.
The reaction of Ferran Torres, who was upset after being substituted despite a good performance, seems more justified. However, Ansu Fati’s behavior—hitting the bench when Pau Victor was substituted instead of him—and especially Hector Fort’s refusal to shake Flick’s hand after the recent win, have raised concerns.
On Monday, Inaki Pena was also in the spotlight. The goalkeeper, whose role diminished after ter Stegen’s return, has yet to understand why he was suddenly benched in the Super Cup due to a delay and has rarely played since.
