Valdano:
Real Madrid Thought Buying Mbappé Would Win Them All Trophies!
Jorge Valdano, former Real Madrid manager, claimed that the club’s executives believed signing Kylian Mbappé would guarantee them every trophy this season.
According to reports, the Spanish Cup final between Real Madrid and Barcelona, which ended in a 3-2 victory for Barça, has been a major talking point among Spanish football analysts.
Jorge Valdano, former Real Madrid player, coach, and sporting director, shared his views on the current state of Real Madrid and Barcelona in a recent program. He criticized Real Madrid’s overconfidence after signing Mbappé.
He said: “Barcelona didn’t know how this season would go for them, especially since Real Madrid had gained a psychological edge after winning the Champions League and La Liga and signing Kylian Mbappé. There was a sense that Real Madrid thought, ‘Well, I’ve won everything without Mbappé, now with him, I don’t even need to run to win.'”
He also commented on Barcelona: “Barcelona had the opposite mindset. They knew they had to stay sharp, run, and sacrifice, or else they’d be humiliated—and we saw the result. A team that gave everything, while Real Madrid struggled in April, failing to find their best lineup or form.”
Barcelona has now beaten Real Madrid in the Super Cup and Copa del Rey finals and currently leads La Liga by four points under Hansi Flick. They also remain strong contenders in the UEFA Champions League, though they must first overcome Inter Milan to reach the final.
