Van Nistelrooy! Your Team Got Relegated, Why Are You Smiling?
Leicester City fans heavily criticized their manager Ruud van Nistelrooy after seeing him hugging Liverpool players and laughing following his team’s relegation from the Premier League.
According to reports, Leicester became the second team confirmed for relegation to the Championship after a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, who are close to securing the title. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shot slipped past the goalkeeper, marking Leicester’s second relegation in the last three seasons.
Leicester needed a win to avoid relegation, but their fate was sealed after Wolverhampton’s victory over Manchester United. The Foxes have failed to score a single home goal in the Premier League since the start of the year, making their relegation almost inevitable.
Leicester resisted until the 77th minute against Liverpool but failed to register a single shot on target. Liverpool fans celebrated their impending 20th league title in the closing minutes, while the final whistle from referee Stuart Attwell confirmed not just the end of the match but also Leicester’s Premier League exit.
Despite the somber mood, Van Nistelrooy was seen smiling and hugging Liverpool players like Harvey Elliott on the pitch. This angered Leicester fans, who once celebrated a Premier League title in the 2015-16 season.
One fan wrote: “If I were a Leicester fan, my head would explode right now!”
Another added: “Ruud is laughing? After we got relegated? Unbelievable!”
Van Nistelrooy said after relegation: “This is very disappointing. It didn’t happen overnight but over several weeks. We never gave up and fought until the last moment. But now there’s no hope left. I expected to earn more points, but I couldn’t deliver better results in the matches I managed.”
