With a Rescue Mission: Joaquín Caparrós Returns to Sevilla
Sevilla FC announced that Joaquín Caparrós has been appointed as the new head coach until the end of the season.
Sevilla FC has appointed Joaquín Caparrós as the new head coach until the end of the 2024-25 season, aiming to salvage their challenging campaign.
This marks Caparrós’ fourth stint at Sevilla, following the dismissal of Javi García Pimienta due to four consecutive defeats in La Liga, which dropped the team to 14th place with 36 points.
Caparrós, who previously managed Sevilla between 2000-2005, 2017-18, and 2018-19, expressed enthusiasm during his unveiling: “I have returned home, to Sevilla. With the same hope and energy I had on my first day with Monchi and Roberto Alós, I am here. We have a fantastic team, and with the fans’ support, we can turn things around.”
Emphasizing unity, he added: “We must all fight for the name of Sevilla. Sánchez Pizjuán is our fortress, and we must unite to secure three points in the next match against Alavés. This is the most important game of the season, and we must make the stadium atmosphere work in our favor.”
Caparrós is focusing on the crucial match against Alavés, which could boost the team’s morale for the remainder of the season.
Caparrós, who led Sevilla to successes like promotion from the second division in 2001 and UEFA Cup qualification, now faces the task of saving the team from relegation. He stressed the importance of fan support: “We need everyone’s backing. Sevilla is not just a club; it represents our city globally. Now is the time for unity: Sevilla, Sevilla, and only Sevilla!”
Fans hope his return will reignite the team’s glory days. The match against Alavés on April 20 will be his first test, with all eyes on Sánchez Pizjuán for a fresh start.
