After Asian Failure: Stefano Pioli on the Verge of Dismissal from Al-Nassr
Al-Nassr is considering the dismissal of Stefano Pioli after the team’s elimination from the AFC Champions League.
According to reports, Stefano Pioli was appointed as the head coach of Al-Nassr at the start of the 2024-25 season after leaving AC Milan at the end of the 2023-24 season. Al-Nassr boasts stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mané, and Marcelo Brozović.
The Italian coach is committed to Al-Nassr with a contract until the summer of 2027, reportedly earning around €12 million per year, excluding bonuses.
However, Al-Nassr is currently third in the Saudi Pro League table and was eliminated from the AFC Champions League after a 3-2 defeat against Kawasaki Frontale of Japan in the semifinals. Reports of tension between Pioli and Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in the season have now increased the likelihood of the coach’s early departure.
Previous reports confirmed that Pioli’s contract includes a clause allowing both him and Al-Nassr to terminate the agreement in June. According to Calcio Mercato, it is unlikely that Pioli will remain Al-Nassr’s coach for the 2025-26 season.
Where will Pioli go after Al-Nassr?
If Pioli leaves Al-Nassr this summer, he could immediately return to Serie A. Several Italian clubs are uncertain about their coaching choices for next season. Roma, still searching for a replacement for Claudio Ranieri, and Napoli, who may need a new coach if Antonio Conte departs, are potential destinations for Pioli.
Pioli’s name had previously been linked with Juventus before the interim appointment of Igor Tudor.
