Arrest Made in Threat Case: Ángel Di María Can Return to Argentina

With the arrest of the individual who threatened the former Real Madrid star and his family, the path for Ángel Di María’s return to his boyhood club, Racing Club, has reopened. These threats had previously prevented the player’s summer transfer to Racing Club, where Di María began his professional career 20 years ago.

The perpetrator was a 33-year-old fan of Newell’s Old Boys, Racing Club’s historic rival in Rosario. Local Argentine media reported that the individual was arrested on Wednesday during a police operation in southern Rosario after a search of a residence in the area. His identity was revealed as Antonio Sebastián M., known by the alias “Chincho” or “Chincholín.”

Reports indicate that Chincholín had previously been under police investigation and had multiple criminal records. According to prosecutor Pablo Suca, this individual carried out orders issued by the leader of the drug trafficking gang “Los Monos.” Chincholín was involved in armed activities led by a group under the leadership of Ficadenti, and the threats against Di María were part of internal conflicts among Newell’s fans to gain control and influence within the club.

Ángel Di María had previously stated in an interview that everything was ready for his return to Racing Club, but the threats prevented the transfer. He explained: “A threat was made in my parents’ neighborhood that became widely known. At the same time, another threat occurred at my sister’s real estate agency, but because my sister and brother-in-law were scared, they didn’t report it. A box containing a pig’s head and a bullet in its forehead was sent along with a note. It said: If you return to Racing, the next head will belong to your daughter, Pía.”

With the arrest of this dangerous criminal, hopes for Di María’s return to Argentine football have been reignited.
