Arteta is not joking: You have to give your life for the trophy
Mikel Arteta says he has asked his players to be ready for any sacrifice for Arsenal at this stage.
Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will visit Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes on Wednesday night to try to overturn the 1-0 defeat in London and reach the UEFA Champions League final.
The Gunners will have Thomas Partey available for this match but will be without several key players including Gabriel, Kai Havertz, and Jorginho due to injury. However, Arteta remains optimistic about his team’s chances in this crucial and highly sensitive match.
The Spanish coach of Arsenal told ESPN: “Excitement, goosebumps, wanting the match day to come as soon as possible, feeling completely ready, absolute confidence… and knowing that the opportunity to play in the Champions League final is ahead of us. When you reach this point, you have to give your life for it.”
He also referred to the difficult conditions of the first leg at Emirates: “When I was going through the tunnel, I saw Tomiyasu outside, Calafiori isn’t there, Gabriel Magalhães isn’t there, Kai Havertz isn’t there, Gabriel Jesus isn’t there, Thomas Partey isn’t there, Jorginho isn’t there. All of them are key players!
And then I saw how the team competed, and it gave me goosebumps. Because they are truly admirable. In the end, that game was taken from us by very, very, very small margins. That’s why I’m completely optimistic about the return match in Paris.”
Arsenal, which has not reached the final since 2006, has never won the Champions League, and this match is considered a historic step for them.
