Two Changes Compared to the First Leg

Hans-Dieter Flick, Barcelona’s head coach, has almost finalized his starting lineup for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Inter Milan at San Siro.

According to reports, the lineup from the first leg is expected to be repeated with one key change: Eric García replacing the injured Jules Koundé at right-back. Flick made extensive changes in the recent match against Valladolid, but injuries and setbacks forced some players to play more than planned. However, considering injuries and playing time, the probable lineup for Milan is clear, with only one or two uncertainties: left-back and the competition between Fermín López and Dani Olmo in the attacking midfield.

Marc-André ter Stegen, who rested against Valladolid, will be the starting goalkeeper against Inter, as confirmed by Flick. In defense, Koundé is absent, and Alejandro Balde is also unlikely to play due to lack of group training and injury risks, though he may return for El Clásico. The defensive line will likely include Eric García and Gerard Martín on the flanks, with Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez in the center.

Cubarsí and Martínez did not play against Valladolid and are ready. There is a possibility that Ronald Araújo could move to center-back, pushing Iñigo to the left—a tactic Flick used in the Copa del Rey final and the first leg against Inter—but Iñigo is uncomfortable in this position, and the change may be made during the game.

In midfield, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong, who each played 45 minutes against Valladolid, will anchor the defensive midfield. Dani Olmo, who came on in the second half against Valladolid, has a high chance of starting in the attacking midfield role, but Fermín López’s good form—scoring the winning goal against Valladolid and shining in the Copa del Rey final and the first leg—could challenge Flick’s decision.

In attack, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha will flank the central striker Ferran Torres, who rested against Valladolid. Robert Lewandowski, who received medical clearance after Sunday’s group training, will be on the bench and ready to come on if needed.

    Barcelona squad

By resting most key players against Valladolid, Flick is taking a fresh squad to Milan. Of the probable lineup, only Martín and Araújo played 90 minutes, while ter Stegen, Torres, Cubarsí, and Andreas Christensen did not play at all.
