The Shadow of an Old Accusation
Barcelona Fans Taunt Raúl Asensio with ‘Go to Jail’ Chants During El Clásico!
Yesterday, during the El Clásico match, Barcelona fans repeatedly mocked Real Madrid’s central defender, Raúl Asensio.
According to reports, cameras repeatedly showed Barcelona fans chanting ‘Asensio, go to jail’ whenever he touched the ball or made a notable move. The chants intensified when he clashed with Frenkie de Jong.
This is not the first time Asensio has faced criticism. After a Las Palmas court rejected an appeal submitted by his lawyer, he is currently facing charges related to the distribution of an unethical video. This decision allows authorities to continue investigations against him.
Previously, during a match against Alavés, Asensio was also criticized by fans. Before that game, banners with critical content against the player were displayed, and chants of ‘Asensio, go die’ were heard during the match.
In the match against Barcelona on May 11, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti fielded Asensio alongside Aurélien Tchouaméni in central defense. Asensio won only one duel, made five timely interceptions, and executed one effective tackle. Real Madrid conceded four goals but also scored three.
