Self-Criticism in the Catalan Locker Room
Barcelona Furious: This is Unacceptable
After the match against Inter, Barcelona stars warned about weaknesses in the game’s start and set-pieces.
Last night, Barcelona and Inter created a thrilling and exciting match for fans in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals. Multiple goals, fast pace, and beautiful moves characterized the game. However, Hans-Dieter Flick’s squad believes they made mistakes that need analysis. The game’s start and defensive weaknesses against set-pieces have caught the players’ attention.
Ferran Torres, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Pau Cubarsi all spoke with self-critical perspectives but remain confident they will win in Milan and advance to the final.
Ferran Torres warned: “We started the game sleepily. We managed to change the very difficult situation we were in, but we must learn from these mistakes. Ultimately, a Champions League semifinal can be decided by set-pieces. We must not let this happen at Inter’s home because they are very strong in this area.” Torres, who once again replaced the injured Robert Lewandowski, scored Barcelona’s second goal.
Raphinha said bluntly: “Conceding this many goals at home is absolutely unacceptable.” The Brazilian star, like Torres, emphasized that the team must be more alert on set-pieces and reminded that Inter is a very powerful and dangerous team on corners.
Pau Cubarsi also criticized the game’s start: “We must criticize ourselves because the opponent managed to score three goals with few attacks. We shouldn’t look negatively; we must believe we can win the return leg, and the fans will support us. We didn’t start the game as we should have.” The young Catalan defender honestly pointed out the team’s weaknesses.
Lamine Yamal and Flick
Lamine Yamal left the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc upset and with a serious expression. He was convinced his team could have won this match.
Hans-Dieter Flick, Barcelona’s coach, also identified the weak start and defensive lapses on set-pieces as two key issues for the team to review: “We didn’t start the game well and conceded two goals. We conceded two goals from set-pieces. We must fix this problem.”
