Reward for a Dream Season
Confirmed After El Clásico Win: Flick Extends Contract Until 2027
Barcelona’s president, sporting director, and manager met last night and finalized an agreement to extend Hansi Flick’s contract until 2027.
Barcelona’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Madrid at Montjuïc Stadium not only virtually secured the La Liga title but also marked another significant achievement: Flick’s contract extension.
Hansi Flick, accompanied by his agent Pini Zahavi and close associates, celebrated the win—his fourth against Real Madrid this season—at Botafumeiro, one of Barcelona’s most prestigious restaurants. During the gathering, the German coach finalized his contract extension with Barcelona until June 2027.
Shortly after the dinner began, club president Joan Laporta joined the group, visibly delighted with yet another victory over their arch-rivals, as it practically confirmed Barcelona’s La Liga triumph.
Zahavi and Laporta had previously discussed details of Flick’s extension, but some terms remained unresolved. Now, after this private meeting, the agreement is fully finalized.
Hansi Flick, whose previous contract ran until June 2026, will now stay with the club until the end of the 2026-27 season. The deal even includes an optional extension clause. Flick has previously stated his preference for short-term commitments and reluctance to plan too far ahead.
The 60-year-old coach also has no long-term plans in top-level football. He prefers to decide after his contract expires in 2027, possibly staying for another year if conditions are favorable. For now, the extension only covers one additional season.
Despite the full agreement, Barcelona will not officially announce the extension until the La Liga title is mathematically confirmed. After the celebrations, the club will seek the right moment to formalize and publicize Flick’s contract extension until June 2027.
