Lamine Yamal and Barcelona are in the final stages of contract renewal, and the agreement will soon be made official.

Barcelona's Key Sporting Agenda: Details of Yamal's Contract Extension

According to reports, FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal are on the verge of writing a new chapter in the club’s recent history. Except for a few minor details that still need to be resolved, the agreement between Barcelona and the player’s representatives is almost finalized.

The club plans to officially announce this extension once Lamine turns 18 this summer, when regulations allow for long-term contracts to be signed.

As reported by ‘La Posición’ from the Sport newspaper, Barcelona’s young star will extend his contract for five more seasons, committing to the club until June 30, 2030. This agreement is considered one of the most important pieces of news in Barcelona’s future sporting planning.

    Stunning Growth

At just 17 years old, Lamine Yamal has broken multiple records for his early breakthrough into Barcelona’s first team. He played his 100th official match for Barça in the away game against Inter Milan. He signed his first professional contract in 2022—a three-year deal (until June 2025) that couldn’t be longer due to his age. However, a clause was included for an automatic three-year extension until 2028, with financial terms already set at the time.

However, according to ‘La Posición,’ these figures no longer align with Yamal’s meteoric rise. He has proven to be more than just a promising talent. As a result, Barcelona and his agent decided to discard the initial extension and draft a new contract that reflects his current status and performance, both financially and in sporting terms.

With this extension, Barcelona, under president Joan Laporta, aims to secure the future of La Masia’s most promising graduate since Lionel Messi. The new contract will run until the summer of 2030, when Yamal will be 23.

Although the exact figures have not been disclosed, it is certain that his salary and release clause will be significantly higher than his previous deal, matching his new role in the team.

Financial Fair Play Rule for Contract Registration

As reported by Sport, La Liga has added a key clause allowing clubs to renew contracts for players under 24 even if they exceed their salary cap—a situation Barcelona currently faces.
To benefit from this clause, the player must have been under contract with the same club for the last three full seasons. Yamal, who progressed through La Masia and made a rapid leap to the first team, fits this condition perfectly.
However, this rule is not a blank check. The financial surplus from this extension must be balanced within the same season. If not, it will be deducted from next season’s cap. In other words, Barcelona can sign and register Yamal’s new contract now, but to avoid financial penalties, they must balance their books by the end of the current season.
