A Million-Euro Defeat
Barcelona Loses Out on €30 Million!
Barcelona’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League semifinals cost them a massive financial bonus, which would have been crucial given their current financial struggles.
The new format of the UEFA Champions League has introduced more lucrative financial rewards, particularly in the grand final. The team that wins the final on May 31 in Munich will secure a significant payout. So far, one team has already qualified for the final: Inter Milan, led by Simone Inzaghi, who secured their place after a dramatic knockout stage against Barcelona.
The winner of the competition will receive €25 million and the eternal honor of being the first champion under the new format. Additionally, they will secure a ticket to the UEFA Super Cup, the Intercontinental Cup, and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup. Previously, the winner’s prize was €20 million, but it has now increased to €25 million. The runner-up will also receive €15 million. Reaching the final alone carried a €15 million bonus, which Barcelona will now miss out on. As a result, Barcelona has lost at least €30 million.
The rewards for the Champions League winner don’t end there. The champion will also earn the right to participate in the UEFA Super Cup, scheduled for August 13 in Udine, Italy. The winner of that match will receive an additional €5 million, while the runner-up will get €4 million.
