Shining After Returning to Football
Barcelona’s Offer Details: Szczesny Should Stay
Barcelona is ready to make efforts to retain Wojciech Szczesny as the team’s goalkeeper.
According to reports, Szczesny, at 35 years old, surprised everyone with his comments on a Polish television network after the El Clásico victory. He discussed a two-year contract extension offer from Barcelona, which he has not yet accepted, stating that he needs to consult with his family first.
He said: “I won’t hide that I’ve been offered a two-year extension, but I need to decide with my family what’s best for us. I have a duty to make these decisions jointly with my wife, so I haven’t made a final decision yet. Often, household decisions are made by my wife, and I’m not ashamed of that.
Usually, football decisions are mine, but this is an unusual situation because we initially planned to come here for just one year, chase our dreams, and then return to a life of playing golf. I will make a decision in the coming weeks. For now, I’m enjoying what has happened and not thinking about whether to stay or not.”
The newspaper Mundo Deportivo contacted Barcelona’s internal sources to assess the situation of the goalkeeper, whose contract expires in June. The club’s response was that the current plan is to officially offer him a one-year contract with an optional extension for another year, but a final decision has not yet been made.
Therefore, we must wait and see what happens. Szczesny’s tears after El Clásico at Montjuïc Stadium and his subsequent comments have cast some doubt on his continued stay, which previously seemed almost certain.
