Brazilian Football Federation Statement in Response to Rumors:
Neymar and His Father Had No Role in Jorge Jesus’ Non-Selection
The Brazilian Football Federation released a statement denying any meeting with Neymar and his father regarding the decision not to select Jorge Jesus as the national team coach.
According to reports, Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte claimed that the Brazilian Football Federation officials had met with Neymar’s father, who also manages Neymar’s career, and that he pressured them to halt negotiations with Jorge Jesus, the former Al-Hilal coach.
However, a day after the controversial report, the Brazilian Football Federation issued a statement completely denying the claim, stating that neither Neymar’s father nor Neymar himself had any influence on the selection process for the new national team coach.
The Federation stated that it had been six months since their last meeting with Neymar’s father and that no contact had been made between them since then.
Thus, Jorge Jesus, who was recently dismissed by Al-Hilal, remains a candidate to lead the Seleção, especially now that Carlo Ancelotti’s potential appointment has reached a dead end.
It is worth noting that Neymar and Jorge Jesus had a strained relationship during the Brazilian star’s final days at Al-Hilal. Jesus even stated in a press conference that he would not remove any player from the team to accommodate Neymar. Due to these events, some Brazilian media believe Neymar is the main opponent of the Portuguese coach’s potential appointment.
