Brentford 4-3 Manchester United: Late Goals Not Enough
Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-3 defeat against Brentford just days after their big win at San Mamés.
Manchester United, who secured a 3-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semifinal first leg on Thursday, started poorly against Brentford. Despite taking an early lead through Mason Mount, they conceded four goals, with late strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo proving insufficient.
Brentford dominated from the start, creating two early chances. Luke Shaw nearly scored an own goal in the third minute, while Kevin Schade missed a golden opportunity moments later. Mount gave United an unexpected lead in the 14th minute against the run of play, converting Garnacho’s cross with a precise right-footed finish.
Shaw, who almost scored an own goal earlier, did so in the 27th minute. A long throw-in from Mathias Jensen deflected off Shaw into his own net. Six minutes later, Schade headed in Jensen’s cross to complete Brentford’s quick turnaround from 1-0 down to 2-1 up.
Brentford continued to dominate, and Schade scored his second with another header in the 70th minute. Six minutes later, Ivan Toney capped off a brilliant team move to make it 4-1. Garnacho pulled one back with a stunning strike in the 90th minute, and Diallo added another in stoppage time, but it was too late for a comeback.
