Car Attack on Fans Before Espanyol-Barcelona Match
An unidentified vehicle ran over several fans near the stadium before the Espanyol vs. Barcelona match, leaving multiple people injured.
According to reports, the derby between Espanyol and Barcelona in La Liga’s 36th matchweek began with a tragic incident. An unidentified vehicle struck fans near the stadium, causing injuries.
Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan police, are currently investigating the possibility that the driver lost control of the vehicle, ruling out terrorism. However, the incident remains under investigation.
The bizarre accident occurred near the stadium gates moments before the match between Manolo González’s Espanyol and Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, as a white car drove into the crowd, injuring multiple people.
According to Marca, the stadium announcer confirmed the situation is under control, with only minor injuries reported.
Seven ambulances are currently attending to the injured. Espanyol officials emphasize that none of the injuries are serious, but the incident caused panic. Victims were taken to nearby hospitals, including Bellvitge Hospital, located close to the stadium.
Empty Stands Due to Protest
Some Espanyol fans, particularly those behind Juan García’s goal, left the stands in protest, believing the match should not proceed after the suspicious incident. Many fans inside the stadium were unaware of the tragic event that occurred just minutes before kickoff.
