Although Virgil van Dijk pulled one back, Cole Palmer sealed the victory with a late penalty, making it 3-1 for Chelsea. Palmer, who scored for the first time in a while, netted his 37th Premier League goal for Chelsea, entering the club’s top 10 all-time scorers in the competition. After the match, he said: “We played really well as a team. They are champions for a reason, but we showed our passion and motivation and defeated the league champions. It’s great!”

On ending his goal drought, he added: “I felt normal. Sometimes bad things happen. It motivates me to work harder for myself and the team. Chelsea teammate Moisés Caicedo, who won the penalty converted by Palmer, said: “He deserves it. He works hard. It was his turn today. I’m really happy for him.”
