Eric Dier, the English defender of Bayern Munich, spoke for the first time about his departure from the club. He will leave the Bavarians at the end of the season and has now confirmed his next destination: AS Monaco.

Dier said with a laugh: “I don’t think this (move to Monaco) was official until now, but I think everything is clear now.”

Despite his contract nearing its end, his decision to leave Bayern was surprising. Dier explained: “I had a great relationship with the club. We talked about extending the contract, had good negotiations, but in the end, we couldn’t reach an agreement.”

When asked why no agreement was reached, he avoided details: “No, I prefer to keep it to myself and not say anything. I have never talked about such things during my football career, and I don’t intend to now.”

Bayern had previously emphasized their interest in keeping the 31-year-old defender, but when it became clear that Dier’s future would not be at Allianz Arena, he began searching for the best option.

Dier, who played for Tottenham for years, joined Bayern in January 2024 and in this short time managed to win his first professional trophy. Throughout the season, he played a key role as a substitute in critical moments.

He said about his experience at Bayern: “When you’ve been at a club for a long time and then come here, you realize how much bigger the world of football is than you imagined. Here, I got to know a different culture, league, and team, and now I’m really eager to have a similar experience again. I think this will be very good for me.”

He also commented on choosing Monaco: “Monaco was the club that had the best negotiations with me. They made the most effort to sign me and really wanted me. That means a lot to me.”
