Farewell at the Peak: De Bruyne Reaches Messi's Record

According to reports, De Bruyne has now joined Lionel Messi in terms of goals and assists under Guardiola. The Belgian star scored the only goal in the victory over Wolverhampton on Friday, bringing his direct goal contributions to 250—a statistic previously achieved only by Messi in teams managed by Guardiola, as per Squawka.

De Bruyne has scored 92 goals and provided 158 assists for Manchester City so far. However, he downplayed the importance of these stats after the match, saying:“I don’t care. The only thing I want is to win. Of course, scoring and creating chances for the team is important. Today, I was the one who scored, but my goal is to help the team win in any way I can.”

This comes after De Bruyne previously announced he would leave Manchester City at the end of the season. His future plans remain unclear, though he had openly expressed dissatisfaction with City’s decision not to renew his contract.

Reports suggest his next destination will likely be Major League Soccer, with Chicago Fire reportedly preparing to begin negotiations with De Bruyne soon.
