Felix Zwayer to Blow the Whistle at Parc des Princes
Referee for Arsenal-PSG: Everyone Satisfied with the Choice
UEFA has announced that Felix Zwayer will officiate the second leg of the Champions League semifinal between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.
According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain will host Arsenal in one of the most crucial matches of the European football season this Wednesday night. The second leg of the Champions League semifinal between the two teams will be officiated by Felix Zwayer, as confirmed by UEFA.
Felix Zwayer, the 43-year-old German referee, will oversee the match at Parc des Princes. Zwayer is one of the most experienced referees in the Champions League, having officiated 36 matches in the competition so far.
While clubs often express dissatisfaction with referee appointments for high-stakes matches, both Arsenal and PSG have no complaints about Zwayer. In fact, he has been considered a lucky charm for both teams.
Arsenal has never lost a match officiated by Zwayer. The Gunners have won twice and drawn once under his supervision, including a dominant 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven in last season’s Champions League. PSG, on the other hand, has less experience with Zwayer, having won once and lost once in matches he has refereed.
Zwayer is known for issuing early yellow cards to maintain control of the game, and both teams should expect early bookings on Wednesday. On average, he shows 5.36 yellow cards per Champions League match, significantly higher than the 3.53 average in Ligue 1. Interestingly, despite his tendency for yellow cards, Zwayer rarely issues direct red cards, which may reassure both Arsenal and PSG.
