Although Filippo, nicknamed Pippo, was a more famous footballer than his brother during their playing days, when they both retired and started coaching, the situation changed, and Simone proved to be a more effective coach than Pippo.

Pippo, who has so far promoted three teams—Venezia, Benevento, and now Pisa—to higher leagues, first praised his brother’s success at Inter, who may take his team to the Champions League final for the second time in recent years. Filippo said: “After the first leg between Inter and Barcelona, I called Simone five minutes after the final whistle and congratulated him. Simone and his coaching staff have done a great job. While no one considered them contenders in the summer, they are now on the verge of a great achievement. It’s true that Simone also congratulated us on our promotion to Serie A, but his job is much harder than mine. Reaching the Champions League semi-finals is a huge achievement. I miss playing in the semi-finals against Barcelona in 2006, and the memories are still alive for me.”
