In the Match Against Valladolid
Flick to Showcase Three New Barcelona Phenomena
Barcelona’s unique situation at the end of the season has led Hans-Dieter Flick to include three academy players in the squad for tomorrow’s seemingly straightforward match against Valladolid.
According to reports, Hans-Dieter Flick, Barcelona’s head coach, has turned to academy players for the upcoming match against Valladolid due to the absence of several key players, including Jules Koundé, Alejandro Balde, Robert Lewandowski, Marc Casadó, and Marc Bernal.
Additionally, some players may be rested due to fatigue from a congested fixture list and the upcoming Champions League semi-final second leg in Milan, while others like Íñigo Martínez, Gavi, and Raphinha risk suspension for El Clásico.
Based on recent training sessions at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, three academy players—Landry Farre, Noah Darvich, and Dani Rodríguez—are likely to be called up to the first team.
Landry Farre, 18 years old
This versatile defender, born in Ivory Coast and raised in Barcelona’s La Masia, can play as a center-back, right-back, or left-back. Despite being in the youth category, he has split this season between Barça Atlètic (17 games, 923 minutes) and the Juvenil A team, winning the UEFA Youth League as a left-back. Farre, with his strong physique and technical ability, is part of the 2007 generation alongside Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí. He excelled last season in Juvenil A and B and captained Spain’s U17 team. Although Xavi called him up for first-team training, he has yet to make an official appearance.
Dani Rodríguez, 19 years old
This fast and technical winger from Basque Country, who joined from Real Sociedad, has only played 10 games (382 minutes) for Barça Atlètic this season due to muscle injuries but has contributed with 3 goals and several assists. Flick, impressed by his speed and skill, has monitored him in first-team training and may give him a chance against Valladolid. Rodríguez, contracted until 2027, can play on either wing or even as a midfielder.
Noah Darvich, 18 years old
This German attacking midfielder, who joined Barça in summer 2023, has yet to meet expectations. He has played 23 games (727 minutes) for Barça Atlètic this season without scoring, and injuries have limited his progress. However, his quality in Germany’s youth teams is evident, and Flick previously called him up for the match against Celta, though he didn’t play. These three players could help Flick navigate Barcelona’s challenging situation against Valladolid.
