I don’t pay attention to scoring stats
Garnacho: When Ronaldo was here, everything was different
The Argentine star of the Red Devils says he doesn’t pay much attention to scoring statistics and getting close to Ronaldo’s record.
Manchester United is one step away from the UEFA Europa League final in one of the worst seasons in its history. The situation in the domestic league is terrible, but the Red Devils, after a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg, are now on the verge of reaching the Europa League final, and if they win, they will qualify for the Champions League. The second leg will be played tomorrow night at Old Trafford.
Alejandro Garnacho, Manchester United’s forward, attended the press conference for this match and answered questions.
Garnacho on his improved performance: “We have to work hard to be in the team. I just have to train well every day to be available to the coach for the matches.”
Garnacho on his experience this season: “I think when the head coach and coaching staff change in the middle of the season, it’s not easy. In my mind, I just try to work hard every day and show the head coach that I want to play.”
The Argentine star on approaching Ronaldo’s scoring record: “I don’t focus on statistics. When Cristiano was playing here, the type of football and style of play was different. Me, Rasmus Højlund, and all the team’s forwards are really working hard. I think we are improving and trying to get better.”
On Amorim’s comments calling this the worst Manchester United team in history: “We know we haven’t performed well in the Premier League. But the head coach has previously said that tomorrow’s match is like a final for us. We see it as a 0-0 game, not that we have won the first leg by three goals. If we win the Europa League, we will qualify for the Champions League and start next season with a different mentality and approach.”
Garnacho on adapting to the new system: “I think when a new head coach comes in the middle of the season and changes the playing system, it’s hard for everyone. We just have to follow the coach’s rules, and I try to get better every day. I think as a team, we are also improving.”
