Germany’s Most Expensive Coach Wins AFC Champions League
Matthias Jaissle, despite his lucrative contract in Saudi Arabia, may return to Europe next summer.
According to reports from “Bild,” Matthias Jaissle, the current coach of Al-Ahli Saudi, is one of the candidates to take over RB Leipzig starting next summer. The 37-year-old German coach previously worked within the Red Bull club structure and may now return to the system.
Jaissle, who moved from Red Bull Salzburg to the Saudi Professional League in the summer of 2023, achieved significant success during his time in Austria, including a domestic double in 2022 and repeating the title the following year. He also worked as an assistant coach in Leipzig’s youth academy between 2014 and 2017.
According to Bild, Jaissle earns €11 million annually at Al-Ahli, making him the highest-paid German coach in football today. His contract runs until June 2026, but reports suggest he is keen to return to European football. Bild also reported that RB Leipzig’s technical director Mario Gomez and executive Marcel Schäfer are highly interested in signing him.
After parting ways with Marco Rose, Zsolt Löw is currently in interim charge of RB Leipzig until the end of the season.
Jaissle’s return to Europe could mark a new chapter in his career, especially if he rejoins the trusted Red Bull structure. However, it remains to be seen how his hefty contract in Saudi Arabia could impact this potential move.
Having won the AFC Champions League, Jaissle is now attracting attention from clubs in his home country as a successful coach, with a long career ahead at just 37 years old.
