Serie A is lost, Champions League is fifty-fifty
Gianluca Pagliuca warns Inter fans: Don’t get your hopes up
Former Inter goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca says Serie A is already lost for the Nerazzurri, and winning the Champions League remains highly unlikely.
While Inter fans are excited about their team’s current form and believe the Nerazzurri can still win both Serie A and the Champions League, former goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca has a different opinion.
Pagliuca urged fans to be realistic, stating that Inter has already conceded Serie A to Napoli. He added that if Inter wins the Champions League, it would be an achievement beyond historical success, though he remains skeptical.
Pagliuca’s comments come as Inter’s fate in the Champions League will be decided tonight at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. After a thrilling 3-3 draw against Barcelona in the first leg, Inter must now defeat the formidable Catalan side at home to advance to the final, where they could face either Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal.
Pagliuca, who spent five years as Inter’s goalkeeper and remains popular among fans, said: “Tonight, I expect Inter to fight tooth and nail. I think they’ll adopt a wait-and-see strategy, likely relying on counterattacks. But Barcelona won’t easily let go of their Champions League final dream, and I believe they’ll launch full-scale attacks. It’s hard to predict the outcome, but I have a good feeling. Who will be decisive? Thuram.”
Regarding Inter’s chances this season, he added: “The treble is gone. It was always an extremely difficult target. If Inter can win either Serie A or the Champions League, they’ll be overjoyed. I think Napoli will win Serie A, and we should consider the Scudetto lost. In the Champions League, it’s hard to be too optimistic because the remaining matches are incredibly tough. Whatever happens, Inzaghi’s team has been successful by fighting until the end on all three fronts.”
