    Done and Dusted: Courtois Surrenders

According to reports, Jan Oblak is on the verge of making history. Even if he doesn’t play another match in La Liga, he has already secured this award: his sixth Zamora Trophy. A record no one in La Liga has ever achieved. The previous record was five Zamora Trophies, held by Oblak, Victor Valdes, and Ramallets. However, the Slovenian goalkeeper is just three games away from this milestone—an unofficial title but one that will be etched in history forever, becoming an unattainable goal for others. Courtois bowed in El Clasico. Conceding four goals almost sealed the Zamora Trophy for Oblak.

Here’s how the calculations stand: Oblak, who leads the race, has a coefficient of 0.794, having conceded 27 goals in 34 matches (he missed one game against Athletic Bilbao due to injury, where Musso played instead). Courtois is second with 28 goals conceded in 29 games (coefficient 0.96), and Soria is third with 28 goals in 29 games (coefficient 0.97). In other words, even if Oblak doesn’t play another match, the Zamora Trophy is his.

    Jan Oblak stats

Even if Oblak plays in one of the remaining matches and concedes three goals, he will still win the Zamora. If he plays in two matches and concedes four goals, or plays in all three and concedes five, he will still claim the award. The maximum coefficient Courtois can achieve to overtake Oblak is 0.87, which is only possible if Courtois keeps a clean sheet in all three remaining matches. For Soria, the limit is 0.89, and for Grifo of Mallorca, it’s 1.

History awaits Oblak. Musso might play in some of the remaining matches this season to ensure the award for Oblak. The only honor left for Atletico this season.
