Jamie Carragher:
If Arsenal Doesn’t Win Trophies, All Their Stars Will Leave!
Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal’s failure to win trophies will create doubts among the team’s star players.
According to reports, Carragher believes that if Arsenal fails to win a trophy soon, they may risk losing key players like Declan Rice. The former Liverpool star warned that Rice, who joined Arsenal in 2023 for £100 million, might start doubting his future at the club if they endure another trophy-less season.
Arsenal has now gone five seasons without winning any major trophy except the Community Shield. The Gunners managed a strong comeback against Liverpool at Anfield last Sunday, securing a 2-2 draw and virtually confirming their Champions League qualification. However, after another season where Arsenal came “close” but fell short, Mikel Arteta has come under scrutiny, and Carragher fears the team built in recent years could fall apart.
The former Liverpool star told Sky Sports: “I don’t think Rice doubts his future right now, but other players who have been at the club longer might feel that way. As for Declan, I think he’s been Arsenal’s best player this season.
I’m not saying he’ll only give them 12 more months, but if they don’t win anything in the next 12 months, those doubts will likely start. The situation might be different for someone like William Saliba, who has been at the club longer and is hungrier for trophies. I don’t think the players are thinking that way right now. They feel they’re really close to achieving their goal. And they are close, but as players, we all know taking that final step is the hardest part.”
Rice is under contract with Arsenal until 2028, with an optional one-year extension. However, contracts for players like Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Magalhaes expire a year earlier in 2027.
Carragher’s comments have angered many Arsenal fans, who have criticized him on social media.
