Jorge Jesus Cancels Farewell Ceremony
Jorge Jesus did not attend the farewell ceremony prepared for him, which is now scheduled to take place on Sunday night.
According to reports, Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach who was dismissed from Saudi Arabian football club Al-Hilal, is set to bid farewell to the team’s players on Sunday evening before training begins. An informed source disclosed this to the newspaper ‘Al-Riyadhia.’
The 70-year-old Jesus was absent from the farewell ceremony scheduled for Saturday, with the reason for his absence remaining unclear. The same source also confirmed that Argentine Damian Hector and Chilean Alvaro Felipe have started their roles—the former as a technical analyst and the latter as a fitness coach. They have joined the new technical staff temporarily led by Mohammed Al-Shalhoub.
Al-Shalhoub, Al-Hilal’s interim coach, will hold his second training session on Sunday in preparation for the team’s match against Al-Raed on Wednesday as part of the 30th round of the Saudi Pro League at King Abdullah City Stadium in Buraidah.
Jesus had previously bid farewell to Al-Hilal fans in a message posted on his official Instagram account, stating: “I thank Al-Hilal Club and everyone who was part of this unforgettable journey. We spent two years full of sacrifice, historic achievements, and the great honor of leading an exceptional group.”
Jesus took charge of Al-Hilal at the start of the 2023-2024 season, leading the team to victory in the Saudi Pro League, the King’s Cup, and two Saudi Super Cups. He also set a world record with 34 consecutive wins, earning Al-Hilal a place in the Guinness World Records.
