We Prefer Him to Stay Next Season
Jose Mourinho’s Situation at Fenerbahce: Tango Needs Two!
Fenerbahce’s president stated that Jose Mourinho rejected a €36 million offer mid-season to remain at Fenerbahce.
According to reports, Fenerbahce, in their first season with Jose Mourinho as manager, bid farewell to the Turkish Super Lig and Cup triumph but were eliminated from the Europa League long ago.
Fenerbahce’s failure to win trophies and Mourinho’s constant tensions with the media and other Turkish clubs have led many to expect his departure at the end of the season.
While Mourinho recently stated that his stay depends on the club president’s decision, Ali Koc, Fenerbahce’s president, spoke about Mourinho’s future today, suggesting that the ‘Special One’ will continue coaching in Istanbul next season.
Ali Koc stated: “We want to continue with Mourinho for the team’s stability. I have explained this before, but some media insist we are looking for another coach.”
Ali Koc referred to recent rumors in Turkish media about Fenerbahce negotiating with Jorge Jesus, the former Al-Hilal coach, who is also a candidate for the Brazil national team. However, Brazilians prefer Carlo Ancelotti over Jesus.
Koc added: “The right thing is for Mourinho to stay another season. He rejected a €36 million offer mid-season to remain at Fenerbahce. However, for a tango, you need two people. If Mourinho wants to leave, the contract terms are clear. There are clauses requiring him to pay a year’s salary to terminate his contract.”
