De Bruyne: The whole team is sad about my departure
Kevin De Bruyne says Manchester City players are sad that he is leaving the club.
According to reports, De Bruyne scored the only goal in Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton on Friday, keeping his team in contention for a top-five finish in the Premier League and a Champions League qualification spot.
This match was effectively the Belgian star’s penultimate game at the Etihad Stadium, and after the final whistle, he revealed how his teammates felt about his imminent departure, which was confirmed last month.
De Bruyne told Sky Sports: “I know there’s only one more home game left for me, but I’m just trying to do my job, and today I did that. Many of my teammates have said it’s sad that I have to leave, but some things in life just happen that way.”
The player reiterated that he still believes he can contribute to City. He had previously admitted his frustration with Pep Guardiola and the club’s sporting director for not renewing his contract after a decade at the club.
De Bruyne added: “I don’t know what the future holds, but I know I can still play here.”
