According to reports, Mallorca’s 1-0 defeat against Girona in last night’s away match has created a bizarre situation for the players.

A victory would have moved Mallorca to seventh place, putting them in contention for a European spot and even giving them an outside chance at Champions League qualification. However, their loss to Girona, a team that had gone winless for some time, has angered fans who accuse the players of lacking pride.

The chants from Mallorca supporters at Girona’s stadium were so aggressive that several players, including veterans, approached the away stands to reason with them. Security personnel had to escort the players through the tunnel as tensions threatened to turn physical.

    Mallorca players confront fans

Dani Rodríguez, Mallorca’s veteran forward, accused the fans after the match, telling reporters: “Four shameless people who call themselves fans think they can threaten their own players with death. They literally said they wanted to kill us. They don’t represent Mallorca’s values. Mallorca is much bigger than these four individuals. This behavior is truly shocking to us.”

The player’s wife also took a stand against the fans on Instagram: “This is football, not war. If you can’t handle it, stay home. If the club has any dignity, they should take action against these so-called fans.”
