Laurent Blanc Justifies His Team’s Weakness: Look at Inter!
Laurent Blanc says his team has scored many goals despite conceding several, just like Inter against Barcelona.
French coach Laurent Blanc of Al-Ittihad Jeddah revealed the behind-the-scenes of his team’s historic comeback in the Clasico against Al-Nassr.
Al-Ittihad was trailing 2-0 in the first half but managed a spectacular comeback to win 3-2. The match took place in the 30th round of the Saudi Pro League at “Old Park” stadium.
Blanc said in the post-match press conference: “We did nothing in the first half and practically gifted Al-Nassr the first goal within just two minutes.”
He added: “I spoke to the players at halftime; it was the first time I spoke to them with such intensity, and I told them some hard truths.”
He continued: “I am very happy with the team’s reaction and proud of my players. They were completely lost in the first half but showed an incredible reaction in the second half, and I congratulate them.”
Blanc also said: “I always ask my players to build the game from the defense, but today it only took two minutes for us to concede a goal, which complicated things. However, in the second half, we showed character and determination, which is a positive point.”
When asked about his team’s defensive weakness and conceding many goals, Blanc replied: “On the other hand, we have scored many goals. When you look at the bigger picture, look at Inter and Barcelona; the Italian team had a fantastic performance but conceded three goals.”
He avoided talking about Al-Ittihad’s title chances, even though his team remains at the top of the table with a six-point lead over Al-Hilal and only four games left in the league.
Blanc concluded: “I don’t know what will happen in the upcoming matches. I don’t want to talk about the future; I only talk about this match. I am not here to discuss the next games.”
