Mahrez: I’m happy to be in a team fighting for titles
The Algerian star of Al-Ahli said the club deserves to win its first Asian championship.
According to reports, tomorrow in the AFC Champions League final between Al-Ahli and Kawasaki Frontale, the champion of the first edition of the AFC Champions League Elite will be determined. Riyad Mahrez, Al-Ahli’s player, attended the pre-match press conference.
The Algerian star began his remarks by saying: The fans always support us; they are our driving force to achieve victory. Without them, we cannot win. Tomorrow is the final step on the path to the championship, and we need all their support.
He spoke about the organization of the AFC Champions League Elite and compared it to the UEFA Champions League: There is no problem in terms of duration and the centralized organization of these stages, as these matches are held in our city, and we want to be the champions of this edition. We face a good opponent from Japan, and we have enough knowledge about their style of play. Our goal is to enjoy the game and win the trophy.
Mahrez said: We see what the fans do; they motivate us and always deserve the best. We want to win the championship for them. In 2012, the club was just one step away from the championship, and now all members of the club deserve to finally win this trophy.
He added: We have watched several matches of Kawasaki Frontale; they are a good team and deserve to be in the final. We are ready to face them; it’s a big game, and we must prepare as best as possible.
“What does winning this competition mean to you?” Riyad Mahrez answered this question by saying: It will be a great victory. I’m lucky to play in a team that fights for victory. These victories give us energy, and we strive to win trophies. Tomorrow we will do our best to achieve victory.
He stated: We have amazing fans who always support us. In the last game, they stood behind us with all their might, and tomorrow we need their presence more than ever.
Mahrez concluded: All of us wanted to reach this final, and now with high focus, we are ready to win tomorrow.
