Mason Mount:
I Don’t Know How We Allowed Manchester United to Get into This Situation
Mason Mount claimed he is not at all satisfied with his and his teammates’ performance this season and does not know how they allowed the season to turn out this way.
Manchester United suffered a heavy 4-3 defeat against Brentford in the 35th week of the Premier League, leaving Erik ten Hag’s squad in a critical situation domestically, despite their European campaign.
Immediately after the match, Mason Mount spoke to reporters about the disappointing loss: “We have to be better. We should have won this game. We started well, but towards the end of the first half and then in the second half, we conceded goals that we knew were coming.”
“We knew they would deliver crosses into the box, and we should have defended better. We can perform stronger throughout the match.
Despite the changes, we must meet the demands. We are Manchester United, and every player who wears this shirt must perform well and win games.
I know we have a big game on Thursday, but the most important thing was winning today. We should have won, and we didn’t. The comeback came too late after they had already scored four goals.”
Mount spoke about Manchester United’s fighting spirit in the closing stages: “We’ve shown this spirit before. We never give up until the final whistle, but how did we allow ourselves to be in this situation in the first place? It’s about character and fighting spirit, but we shouldn’t be embarrassed like this.”
When asked about the importance of winning the Europa League, Mount replied: “It would be a great way to end the season. We have a big game on Thursday. It doesn’t matter what the first-leg result was; we’ll treat it as 0-0. We know what we have to do.
We can qualify for the Champions League next season, and that’s the most important thing. Our Premier League campaign needs serious review, but if we can reach the final and win it, it would be a positive end to a difficult season.”
