With a Brace Against Celta Vigo
Mbappe One Step Away from Pichichi: Lewandowski’s Position Not Safe
Kylian Mbappe took full advantage of Robert Lewandowski’s injury and reduced the gap with him at the top of La Liga’s scoring chart to just one goal after scoring twice today.
According to reports, Kylian Mbappe has heated up the race for the Pichichi, La Liga’s top scorer title. His two goals against Celta Vigo took his tally to 24, just one behind Robert Lewandowski, who remains in first place with 25 goals.
With four matches left in the La Liga season, while the title race between Real Madrid and Barcelona remains undecided, the battle for the top scorer between the two stars has intensified.
As the season reaches its final weeks, it’s clear that this year’s Pichichi has two main contenders: Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski. The Polish Barcelona star leads with 25 goals. Until recently, it seemed unlikely that Mbappe could catch up, as the gap was three goals. However, Lewandowski’s injury and Mbappe’s brilliant performance today have brought both players almost level in the race.
Lewandowski was injured two weeks ago against the same Celta Vigo team that Mbappe scored twice against today and has missed several matches since.
After Lewandowski and Mbappe, the gap between the other top scorers in La Liga is so large that no one else has a realistic chance of catching them. Budimir is third with 18 goals, followed by Raphinha and Iago Aspas with 16 goals each.
